País de mierda

Gracias a Sobre Israel Opinamos Todos, los que no leemos el Jerusalem Post todos los días, nos enteramos por este devastador editorial que nuestro país, ese campeón de la tolerancia, el talante, el progresismo y el buen rollito, llena titulares por el mundo por racista, mezquino y miserable. Pero como aquí no se lee más que El Paissss, el Marca (y, a veces, El Mundo y Público), pues seguimos encantados de habernos conocido (aparte de tener el "sistema financiero más sólido del mundo" y no sufrir una crisis, sino una "recesión pronunciada").

Para los que no estén en la movida, el JP no sólo lo leen los ciudadanos de Jerusalem. Ni los de Israel. De hecho, la mayoría de sus lectores, que son muchos y extraordinariamente influyentes, están dispersos por el mundo. Así que, si lo de estar en un "país de mierda" no era vox populi, lo estamos consiguiendo.

Nada de esto hará saltar las alarmas entre mis compatriotas, que hoy despertaron condolidos, no por salir retratados en el Wall Street Journal como poco menos que tercermundistas, ni por ser los más racistas de Europa. Están en estado de shock por los resultados del fútbol. Así nos va.

Yo sólo os invito a leer los comentarios de los lectores bajo el artículo. Da ganas de llorar. Yo mandé el mio, que no sé si publicarán.

As a Zionist in Spain, I can testify that the anti-Semitism in my country is horrible.

Make no mistake, though: it is NOT that deeply rooted in religious or historic facts. Spaniards have been happy to abandon other Catholic-related ideas (anti-islamism, religious mandates, divorce...). Modern anti-Semitism hides behind Anti-Israelism´s 3 Ds (Demonization, De-legitimization, Double standards) and is driven by the left wing intelectual elite that dominates public opinion through media and academia. Children of 68 that still cling on to old myths, fights and stereotypes. They defend the Palestinian with a kefyia uncritically, the same way they still defend the Castro's in Cuba. Then, the politicians follow, not because they care about the Middle East or Israel, but because it is a cheap way to still apply the old liberal "ideals" to obtain internal political yield and attack the more Israeli-aligned right wing in a soft public opinion spot.

My humble advice, as a pro-Israeli activist in Spain, is that you forget about Isabellas and Inquisitions and start paying more attention to economic pressure to media groups.

As for the readers' posts, I would also warn about not making the same mistake the bad guys make: stereotypes and generalizations. There are MANY friends of Israel in Spain, we are fighting hard against all odds, and we are Spanish. Any contempt, any insult directed to all Spaniards and our country, is directed to us too.

Supongo que yo puedo decir lo de país de mierda, pero me jode oirlo de los demás.
